McAuliffe Urges Illinois to Join Other States in Raising Awareness for Eating Disorders

Springfield, IL…. State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) has filed House Resolution 977 to designate the week of February 21 to February 27 as “Eating Disorder Awareness Week” in the State of Illinois. Rep McAuliffe is asking that the State join other organizations, states, and schools in recognizing the nationally designated week.

“Like many other mental illnesses and disorders, eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia live in the shadows because of attached stigmas and misinformation,” Rep McAuliffe said. “The goal with this resolution and awareness week is to put the spotlight in Illinois on the seriousness of eating disorders and to improve public understanding of their causes, triggers, and treatments.”

During this upcoming week, members of the community are encouraged to wear purple and learn more about these illnesses. The National Eating Disorders Association will be holding its annual conference in Chicago this year from September 29th to October 1st.  For more information go to
