Springfield, IL…. State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) today passed House Joint Resolution 49 to recognize the impact of the Sisters of the Resurrection, a group of Polish women, and their community efforts since immigrating to the northwest side of the city of Chicago.
The Sisters of the Resurrection were originally founded in Rome, Italy in 1881 and they arrived in Chicago in 1900. Over the course of the last century they built Resurrection High School, Resurrection Medical Center, Resurrection Retirement Center, and Resurrection Life Center. At their peak in 1962 there were over 230 Resurrection Sisters. Today there are just 24.
Rep. McAuliffe’s resolution declares April 22, 2019 Sisters of Resurrection Day in Illinois to honor the legacy, mission, and commitment of the sisters to providing critical healthcare and high-quality education to the vulnerable populations in Chicago for 119 years.
